Moonrises on Kauai
Once a month on the island of Kauai, a divine event takes place. If you happen to witness it, the image shall stay with you forever. And, if you allow yourself to be totally present as the event unfolds, you shall be blessed by a feeling of fortune and fullness.
Once a month the moon becomes full. Vivaciously illuminated by the sun, the moon glows, emanates and casts a magical aura upon the earth. This can be witnessed anywhere in the world. On Kauai, however, the effects are enhanced.
On the tiny island of Kauai, few lights pollute the night sky. A spectrum of sparkling stars, courageous constellations and the soft blanket of the Milky Way paint the dark canvas of space uninhibited. But, when the moon is full, the radiant glow drowns out the stars and casts a spotlight upon the island, illuminating each unique leaf of the jungle and wave of the ocean.
The main event, however, takes place well before the moon reaches its apex in the sky. And, this happening is what sets the full moon in Kauai apart from anywhere else in the world.
At the exact moment that the last glimmer of sun sets beneath the western horizon of the Pacific Ocean, the first sliver of the full moon rises upon the eastern horizon. And there you are, sandwiched between two natural phenomena, perfectly placed to absorb the radiance of both.
Witnessing the full moon rise over the east side of Kauai is a truly magical experience. As the silver orb first graces the horizon line, it is timed in tandem with sunset, so the sky is a painted bridge from day to night. Fierce fuchsias give way to pastel peaches that meld into brilliant blues and incandescent indigos. Above you is the softness of a gradient sky, while right before you is the stark runway of silvery light that extends across the ocean from your beachside seat all the way to the moon’s entrance.
One of the best places to partake in this moonlit miracle is the optimally located Oasis On The Beach Restaurant. Perfectly situated on the east side of Kauai, the view of the full moon rise is crystal clear and uninhibited. Enjoy your magical moment with a designer drink in hand and award-winning food at your table. There is often live music to serenade the scene, soothing Hawaiian rhythms that coast upon the salty sea breeze.
Or, if you are feeling more intimate, the full moonrise can be witnessed directly from your very own balcony at The Waipouli Beach Resort. An immaculate place to call home during your vacation, we feature an array of customized rooms, suites and penthouses so you may find the perfect one to fit your needs and desires. And, you can enjoy not only the full moonrise, but also the sunrise each morning from this location.
If, for some reason, you happen to miss the full moonrise during your stay on Kauai, do not fret. The moonrise can still be witnessed on the east side a few days before and after the apex of fullness, though the percentage of light and actual time does change.
