Across the island of Kauai, a sacred tempo serenades each Sunday morning. It pulsates through ocean waves, trade winds and sun rays. It’s melodic, upbeat and groovy. It’s sweet, salty and chewy. Your senses don’t lie. It’s irresistible. As this curiously intriguing vibration draws you into its gravitational pull, you soon discover a pleasant surprise: The Holey Grail.
Debuting a revolutionary approach to community, conscious cuisine, and culinary creativity, Holey Grail Donuts is satisfying the ultimate sweet spot.
“Quality, Community, Heart and Soul are at the core of Holey Grail. We wish to bring together the highest quality ingredients that celebrate and protect the place we live, while connecting through wild creations and conversation,” says co-owner and founder Hana Dreiling.
What is Holey Grail Donuts?
So what, exactly, is Holey Grail Donuts? Well, it’s an experience. It’s a mouth-watering journey in every bite. It’s an edible art form. It’s a representation of the exotic abundance on Kauai. It’s a celebration of life, donuts, music and local agriculture. It’s a Sunday ritual. And, in a nutshell, it’s the best donut you’ve ever had.
Hands down, Holey Grail Donuts is the trendiest foodie dig on the island of Kauai. Blazing a novel trail of culinary expression, siblings Hana and Niles Dreiling have conspired a rebellious take on this conventional treat.
“My brother and I have sought to create a new donut of its kind. We began a ‘culinary crusade’ to seek out the highest quality ingredients and superfoods to create the Holey Grail of donuts. The name encompasses the everlasting quest to improve ourselves, our planet, and our products,” shares Hana.
Crafted from local Kauai ingredients and traditions
Rooted in sustainability and Hawaiian tradition, Holey Grail donuts are made from a base of taro, or kalo. Taro is a sacred Hawaiian plant, revered for its nutritional, medicinal and ecological benefits. The unique savoriness of taro pairs perfectly with the coconut oil used for frying, creating a wholesome foundation for the carefully curated toppings. Using seasonal, local and wild ingredients, Hana and Niles offer fresh farmers-series flavors each and every week.
The experience doesn’t stop at donuts. Groovy harmonics drift from the windows of the Holey Grail food truck, providing a righteous soundtrack for the satiating Sunday ceremony. Irresistible aromatics float upon the tunes, prepping your palette for the indulgence ahead. Locally-sourced and made-from-scratch beverages flawlessly add to the appeal. All the while, good people, genuine smiles and an undercurrent of connection weave each moment into blissful fate.
“We began our journey with a tiny fryer and big dreams. Our Sunday donut ritual has become a phenomenon that none of us were quite expecting; it feels very much like breakfast with the family. We hope to continue this ritual into our future storefront.”
Where to find Holey Grail Donuts
Located in the heart of Hanalei, Holey Grail donuts can be found in the food truck corridor every Sunday morning from 7am to sellout (usually around noon). However, due to overwhelming responses and support, a full-on storefront will be opening later this summer.
“We are really excited to turn our Sunday donut ritual into an everyday ritual. We don’t know what the future holds, but it will include more unique products and experiences!” reports Dreiling. “Everyone should look forward to shortened wait times, an enlightened beverage program, and more donuts! Along with the same joyful experience that we’ve curated for our current Sunday customers, with a surprise or two.”
Holey Grail Donuts is an experience not to be missed! You can find Hana and Niles, along with their high-vibe crew, every Sunday morning in Hanalei Town. And keep your eyes out for the grand opening of their storefront late summer 2019!
